“Faulklin…”
“She started it,” the teen spat childishly. “I just finished it.”
“Funny how you don’t want me to call you a child and yet you act like one,” Mamoru felt the need to point out, offering Sarah a wave of parting as he turned back on the path.
“I do not,” he protested stubbornly in his own defense, clenching his jaw.
“Do too,” Mamoru shot back just as childishly, making the teen scowl at him with a look of contemplation that made the man unable to help but ask, “Anything else you want to argue about?”
“You’re an ass,” the teen spat.
“And you’re a belligerent pain in the posterior,” Mamoru returned without missing a beat, earning himself a growl from the teen. “Easy enough to point fingers at everyone else, but the truth of the matter is none of us are perfect.”
At this point he shrugged slightly.
“Maybe I am an ass. Personally I find it pointless to argue with words that may or may not mean anything. All I know is that I am who I am. Some people like that, and some people don’t. It’s unrealistic to make everyone happy, so I just try to make those happy that matter most and do my best for them.”
Faulklin gazed at him thoughtfully before once again resting his head on the man’s shoulder, single eye half-lidded.
“I guess. ‘could be worse things.”
“Good to know not everything I have to say is arguable,” Mamoru chuckled good-naturedly.
